Shabri 2011 Movie Review-
Shabri, directed by Lalit Marathe and produced by Ram Gopal Varma had Ishaa Koppikar playing the first female crime lord in Mumbai. The posters of the film looked downright raw, and it was expected to be another ‘Satya’ in the making. Critic opinions sound mixed:
Nowrunning thinks its worth a watch for the brillinat performances and intense plot: “Eesha Koppikar has all the rights to be gung-ho about this film for she deserves to be lauded for her stupendous performance. But all this couldn’t have been possible without the debutant filmmaker Lalit Marathe who weaves an intense revenge saga beautifully.”
Sify terms it gritty and fascinating: “Shabri belongs to a genre monopolized and moulded by Ram Gopal Varma from way back in the ’90s. You may find the pace and storytelling a bit dated, but if you can forgive that, you have a mafia story that’s both gritty and fascinating.”
Rediff gives it a thumbs down though: “This long-delayed slice of criminal life falls in the same genre as Satya or Company but doesn’t possess the technical pizzazz or sly narrative of these afore-mentioned landmarks. Instead it wears the appearance of a sincere television film that relies predominantly on inspiration to take the story forward.”
